Reviews 2023

“Fabulous race first time we have done this one and probably one of the best organised and friendly 10k we have participated in ! Thank you we will be back ! Love the medal

“Brilliant event, thank you organisers. A special thank you to all the helpers along the route who clapped and said encouraging words to keep a very slow participant going. I hope they realise how a clap and a few words makes all the difference. You even sorted out the weather for us. Thank you again, I suspect I will back again next year

“What a wonderful morning…. We ladies of Hook Runners had the loveliest time. We got many PBs and a podium place among us, but the best bit was the camaraderie and the fact that 4 of our boys… 2 of our beloved injured and some of our offspring came to cheer… and that sun shone (just enough and just at the right time!) Thanks for a great race

“What a fabulous event, perfect organisation, beautiful day! Thank you to the lovely sub 60 pacer Can’t wait till next year!

I entered this event for the simple reason that I saw a picture of the medal on the website and it was gorgeous. But I am so glad I entered. There is far more to this race than a medal (even a stunning one!).
There is ample, free parking. An extensive race HQ, with shops, refreshments, places to sit down. An efficient baggage store. A picturesque, traffic-free course (without too many hills). And loads of extremely well-appointed loos!

But it is not just these things that make the race special. It is the incredible atmosphere. Women of all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities. All united in the most friendly, inclusive race I have ever entered. This was more like one big party than a race.

I was stupid enough to trip over my feet in the last mile, and made a very hard and painful landing. But I was immediately surrounded by lovely ladies, offering, help, support, water, gels, everything. However, I was still determined to get my lovely medal, and I was offered a helping hand for the rest of the race. Later I was patched up efficiently and kindly by the marvellous medical staff.

Altogether a wonderful experience. I’ll be back next year. The words on the website are true:

“It’s More Than a Race – It’s a Community”

Having competed in R4W’s events many times before I knew that this would be a fantastic race. Easy online entry and communication by email and on social media from the organisers right up to the day of the race, and afterwards, were excellent.
The race is open to all abilities from very inexperienced beginners to experienced runners. The closed Facebook group for the event is really friendly and it’s good to chat with other ladies doing the race and indeed since. The unique setting of Windsor Great Park is glorious – a lovely, misty sunny late September morning, deer, fantastic views, more than ample free parking (always a bonus at an event) and the best portaloos ever, what’s not to like? The atmosphere was amazingly friendly, lots and lots of lovely ladies all running and walking for their own reasons. There was a real buzz waiting for the start of the race especially with Jo Pavey starting the race such an inspiration, even got her autograph after the race.

This is a slightly challenging 10K with a climb right at the beginning but that’s what makes it so much fun! The scenery all the way round is beautiful and the marshals and Park residents were very encouraging – much appreciated when I was struggling at a couple of points! Water stations located just where needed and the waste zones are a brilliant idea. The run back down to the finish includes a stunning view of Windsor Castle. The spectators along the last couple of kilometres cheered everyone. This event always has fab finishers’ medals and t shirts and this year’s were no exception. Thank you R4W and to all the volunteers involved in making this such a memorable, friendly event, I will definitely be entering again!

Very well organised. Loved seeing the deer in the park, beautiful scenic route, brilliant atmosphere. Plenty of water and toilet facilities on route. Great toilets at the start and plenty of food vans.
